Auditions

In order to be admitted to Flanders Operastudio, applicants must pass an audition. Auditions take place at least twice a year: once in Belgium, at the operastudio in Ghent and once abroad. Vocal technique and stylistic and stage experience are an advantage. So is a higher education singing qualification (university or equivalent level). The applicants must have sufficient interest in the present-day opera world. The maximum age for applicants is 32. The candidates are asked to prepare three arias for the audition, plus a short spoken excerpt from a libretto, play or piece of prose. The auditions may be followed by an interview.

The candidates for the repetiteur-course have to prepare the Finale Second Act Don Giovanni (Mozart); they have to accompany themselves in a scene from a Wagner, Puccini or Verdi-opera (5 to 10 min.) and have to sight-read and sing a part from a score while following a conductor. They also have to present a short piece of prose.

The annual fee for the Flanders Operastudio course is 1000 Euro. The expenses incurred in attending these auditions are to be paid by the applicants.

APPLICATIONS FOR THE ACADEMIC YEAR 2012-2013 ARE CLOSED. NEXT AUDITIONS SPRING 2013.
